Associate Counsel

British American Tobacco Global Business Services currently has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Associate Counsel , joining us on a permanent basis, in our Bucharest offices.

The Associate Counsel is a member of the Commercial Legal team reporting to the Legal Counsel. The job holder will be working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and will be expected to engage confidently and effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

The Associate Counsel is responsible for:

• delivering a high professional standard of legal support to the Company through the application of excellent counseling, drafting and negotiation skills;
• providing proactive advice and support to business partners and stakeholders, locally;
• participating actively in problem-solving and decision-making in all areas of the business, and consistently working to minimize and manage commercial and legal risks.

Key Accountabilities:

• Reviewing, maintaining and providing support for the implementation of the Company’s corporate governance related policies and standards and ensuring compliance;
• Providing robust legal advice on varied employment law matters (structuring, employee dispute resolution, violation of standard business conduct, disciplinary proceedings etc.) and ensuring that all employment related matters are properly managed and reported to the relevant stakeholders;
• Drafting, advising and negotiating a wide range of contracts. Ensuring the Company has appropriate contractual arrangements with all relevant third parties and are signed-off in accordance with agreed authorisation limits;
• Contributing to the build and maintenance of a central legal knowledge center (precedents, training material, induction material, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• University degree in Law;
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience with good knowledge of contract law and corporate law;
• In-depth knowledge of data protection and employment law (structuring, employee dispute resolution, violation of standard business conduct, disciplinary proceedings etc.);
• Ability to draft and negotiate contracts with external parties;
• Ability to prioritize and work efficiently under tight deadlines;
• Ability to work independently but also within a team;
• Keeps up to date with changes in law and corporate governance best practices;
• Proficient user of MS Office applications; advanced-level user of MS Word.
