Chief Accountant – on behalf of our client

What are we looking for?

On behalf of our client, a European market leader in the packaging, paper and recycling industry with over150 years of experience, we are now looking for a Chief Accountant. With a wide range of products that include production of paper, corrugated cardboard and packaging of paper and cardboard, the company has two state-of-art factories in the Brasov area and in Bucharest and is one of the market leaders in the industry.

Role and responsibilities

Working together with the Country Finance Director and the General Management of the company, the Chief Accountant is responsible for managing the activity of the accounting department as well as for the day-to-day operations in accounting. To be successful in this role, you should have solid accounting knowledge and experience in a production environment, availability to travel between plants, personal drive and a continuous improvement mindset.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation and responsibility for closing the financial year and mid-year financial statements

• Verifying all accounts in order to prepare the closing trial balance sheet according to local GAAP

• Preparing data for all tax declarations, supervising tax payments and delivering third party reports in order to be compliant with all accounting / fiscal requirements

• Preparation, planning and participation in periodic stock counts

• Responsibility for fixed assets registration, payroll registration, month end closing accruals, materials interfaces checks

• Updating transfer pricing files

• Delivering accurate financial reports on specific terms to management or other beneficiaries of the Group

• Preparing and updating procedures and work instructions and maintaining a documented system of accounting procedures and policies

• Active participation in internal audit missions, at local and Group level as well as providing assistance during fiscal audits

• Involvement in optimization projects and a focus on identifying improvement initiatives from an accounting perspective

• People management responsibilities of staff from the Accounting department

Candidate Profile

• Flexibility to travel between plants (Brasov, Bucharest)

• Higher education in Economics/ Accounting and CECCAR certification

• Solid knowledge of Romanian statutory accounting and fiscal legislation as well as IFRS knowledge

• Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in a leading role in accounting

• Solid experience in the production industry

• Exposure to group and top management reporting, including reporting in accordance with other GAAPs

• Solid SAP working knowledge

• Strong English language skills

• Hands-on and proactive attitude

• Continuous improvement mindset

• Strong communication skills

• Attention to detail

• Driver’s license - B category
