What we are looking for

On behalf of our client, a leading international vertically integrated fertilizer producer, we are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant.

This is a unique opportunity to be the Chief Accountant for our client’s newly created entity in Bucharest. The successful candidate will be instrumental in establishing the accounting function within the Romanian office. The role will then focus on overseeing the company’s statutory accounting and fiscal compliance processes.

Role and responsibilities

The Chief Accountant oversees the company’s statutory accounting and fiscal compliance processes. The Chief Accountant reports directly to the CEO of the Company.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain internal control and effective accounting system and policies for the setup of the Romanian office
• Conduct month-end and year-end close process, controls
• Prepare the financial statements and reporting package according to IFRS (monthly) as well as other reporting (. for HQ, etc)
• Perform full set of accounts and ensure timely closing of accounts
• Perform accruals including landed costs management
• Perform monthly stock reconciliation
• Lead on yearly audit
• Support Group level CFO in ensuring that intercompany cost allocations are in line with management agreements and transfer pricing policy
• Perform other trading activity tasks as well as invoice posting, payroll posting and reconciliation, VAT related collection of documents, etc supported by the accountant
• Work consultatively with the company’s departments on cost reduction initiatives

Candidate profile:

• Higher education in Economics/Accounting
• At least 5 years of working experience as Senior or Chief Accountant
• Solid and up to date knowledge of statutory accounting and fiscal legislation
• Experience with SAP
• Excellent command of English
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Drive, proactivity and a focus on continuous improvement
• Self-motivated person, eager to contribute to the success of the new Romanian entity
• Previous experience in the agribusiness industry will be considered an advantage
