ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
Reports to: Indirect Tax Manager (Customs & Excise)
Reporting Level: Individual Contributor
Geographic Scope: Regional
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
- Support the customs team with Rules of Origin compliance (mainly for UK market (EU – UK FTA) but in future also different customs jurisdictions)
- Interacting with different departments within the Group (finance, legal, procurement, local customs & excise teams)
- General support of customs & excise operations
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
- Ensuring the customs compliance & planning of BAT operations with regards to rules of origin
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
- Supervising Bills of Materials and customs documentation related to Rules of Origin
- Communicating with different departments and coordinating efforts aimed at creating and maintaining documentation relating to origin of goods and preferential treatment
- Proactively looking for and providing updates on rules of origin, free trade agreements, customs controls
- Obtaining, checking and preparing documentation to meet customs and insurance requirements, packing specifications, and compliance with other countries' regulations and fiscal regimes
- Provides on-going support and advice for production Departments on issues related to import and export of non-Community goods and ensures support and advice is provided for movement of goods
- Maintains Customs Records and commercial documents, Simplified Procedure records and inward processing records, processes INTRASTAT data for cargo movement
- Participates in customs inspections related to customs records
- Prepares necessary correspondence with competent customs authorities on duties and excise tax
- Managing documentation for shipments requiring letter of credit, Arab certificates or origin etc.
- Be the first point of contact in for rules of origin, letters of credit etc.
- Develop a culture of service and delivery, with a view to enhance quality and timeliness of delivery
- Support wider team through knowledge transfer and a flexible approach
- Build a strong network within BAT to ensure that issues can be quickly identified and resolved
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- University Degree, preferably in law/ finance / logistics or other related studies
- Practical experience with conducting & supporting customs operations, preferably in the following types of roles: customs officer, customs agency specialist, or a similar role within a similar working environment as BAT
- Experience with supporting the manufacturing industry regarding international movement of goods
- Knowledge of the customs regulations and operations and relevant concepts (preferences, rules of origin)
- Ability to enter dialogue with different departments of the company in discussions aimed at maintaining and establishing compliance of goods with regards to rules of origin
- SAP literacy
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Problem-solving ability, particularly when working under pressure
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Numeracy and computer literacy
- Comprehensive understanding of EU / UK customs practices, specifically the declaration of goods for import/export, special customs procedures (IPR, customs warehousing etc.), rules of origin and associated documentation (ATR, EUR1, LTSD etc.), customs classification and valuation
- Full proficiency in written and spoken English
