The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Romania and is now looking to recruit an Economic Diplomacy Assistant Intern to support the Economic Diplomacy Team in delivering of its main duties.
Main roles and responsibilities:
- Conduct background research on policy topics with main focus on Climate Change;
- Monitor and analyse specific legislative and policy issues and trends from the Romanian or UK Government, commercial sector or civil society (. Climate Change, Environment, Banking, Transport, Health etc.);
- Provide support to the embassy team on projects;
- Contribute to stakeholder meetings and events;
- Translate from English to Romanian and vice versa.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Fluent in English (spoken and written);
- Fluent in Romanian (spoken and written);
- Bachelor university degree;
- Good written and organisational skills;
- IT literacy;
- Good team player;
- An interest to develop by learning on the job and completing tailored training via our Diplomatic Academy.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Background in international relations/ economics/ political science;
- Interest in climate change agenda;
- Interest in current political and economic affairs

Other benefits and conditions of employment
This is a full-time, internship contract for 12 months (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.
The completion of a bachelor university degree is an essential requirement. The candidate needs to be able to provide evidence in the form of the original licentia.
The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.
Monthly salary is 2,350 RON gross. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.
All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Romania. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.
Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary pending EU Exit. If requirements change additional eligibility information will be shared during the recruitment process.
