Job Purpose:
To carry out the professional duties of a Lower and Middle School ICT teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Head of Department and Head of School. Successful candidates will have near-native command of both written and spoken English.
To be a self-motivated professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum knowledge, can teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development, and foster students who achieve high standards.
Areas of Responsibility and Key Tasks
Planning, Teaching and Class Management
Teach allocated students by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through:
- Strict adherence to the School’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy;
- Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school’s plans, curricula, and schemes of work;
- Being responsible for planning and preparation, and developing teaching materials, curricula, and schemes of work;
- Assess, monitor, record, and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment;
- Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils;
- Set high expectations which inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils;
- Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils;
- Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge;
- Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for termly internal tests;
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s values and vision;
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school;
- Work with others on curriculum and pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes;
- Provide cover, in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach;
- Uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school;
- Evaluating own teaching critically to improve effectiveness;
- Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies, and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of programming key concepts, software used will be Scratch, Scratch Junior, and Python;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies;
- A good understanding of how children learn;
- Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs;
- Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils;
- Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children;
- Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies;
- Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning.
Other Professional Requirements
- Have a working knowledge of teachers' professional duties and legal liabilities;
- Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school;
- Know subject(s) or specialism(s) to enable effective teaching;
- Take account of wider curriculum developments;
- Establish effective working relationships and set a good example through their presentation and personal and professional conduct;
- Endeavour to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential and meet high expectations;
- Co-operate with other staff to ensure a sharing and effective usage of resources to the benefit of the school, department, and students;
- Contribute to the corporate life of the school through effective participation in meetings and management systems necessary to coordinate the management of the school;
- Take responsibility for own professional development and duties in relation to school policies and practice
- It is understood that areas of responsibility are from time to time subject to review and are negotiable in the light of the needs of the school and the professional development of the staff.
