The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit an L&D Content Developer for the Diplomatic Academy.
The Diplomatic Academy provides innovative and creative learning solutions to meet the needs of the UK Government to support learners in doing their jobs more effectively, based on specific organisational goals. The Diplomatic Academy has teams based across the globe and in the UK, partnering with British Missions (Posts) and Directorates to ensure learning is based on performance outcomes and aligned to UK Government priorities. We work to ensure that learning activities are designed to best-practice L&D standards, based on solid research and contribute to building a positive learning culture within the workplace.
Ourkey learners work in 274 posts based in 168 countries and perform a variety of different job roles.
This role is based within the Diplomatic Academy’s Learning Design Team, working in partnership with a range of stakeholders and subject matter experts to design innovative, accessible, and engaging learning.
We are looking for an experienced Content Developer. You will have experience of writing in both print and digital mediums. Ideally, you will have experience in the writing and design of on-line instructional training programmes and courses, and have an understanding of adult learning principles. The role will involve occasional international travel.
The role will involve working within an innovative and creative design environment at the heart of a global organisation, so there will be many opportunities to learn new things and build your skills and experience. The job will evolve as the Academy continues to mature, so the successful incumbent should expect to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, including working across teams.

Roles and responsibilities:
- Work with L&D Designers and Digital Designers on a range of learning design projects to provide content development expertise as follows:

Editing and re-drafting learning storyboards to create high quality content that flows and which aligns with the instructional goals of the project; often transforming complex language so that it is learner-centred.

Re-drafting, re-purposing, and curating existing learning content (for example from an eLearning, eBook, podcast or video) to ensure it is current and learner-centred.

Selecting how to best represent content appropriate to the format (for example: using bullets or tables, visualising infographics).

Scripting, storyboarding, and editing video and podcast scripts.

Writing content for marketing purposes.
- Partner with a range of stakeholders and subject matter experts on raw content and be able to build strong relationships with colleagues, positively promoting the brand of the Diplomatic Academy.
- Be mindful of accessibility regulations and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) when working with content.
- Act as an exemplar for colleagues by sharing best practice around content curation, house style, and branding guidelines, and so build capability and upskill colleagues within other Diplomatic Academy teams.
- Quality check products to ensure output has high standards of written and spoken English.
- Apply appropriate style guide standards to written content produced, including the style guide and internal department standards.
- Be able to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience

At least 2-3 years’ experience of writing content for digital mediums, such as eLearning, online blogs, or digital communications.

Excellent written communication skills, including copywriting, editing, and proofreading, with a commitment to communicating clearly and in plain English.

Proven ability to work effectively in an environment of high activity, competing priorities, and time pressure.

Highly organised, detail oriented with an openness to new ideas and creative approaches to problem solving.

Strong stakeholder management skills with experience of co-creating audience-focused, fit-for-purpose content.

Ability to engage with complex and unfamiliar subject matter.

Experience of video or animation scripting, filming, and editing.

Other benefits and conditions of employment
This is a full-time and permanent contract (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.
The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.
Monthly salary is RON gross. In addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania.
For your information whilst the Emergency Ordinanceis in place the job holder will receive a gross monthly compensation bonus of RON 1882.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of up to 30 working days.
Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary pending EU Exit. If requirements change additional eligibility information will be shared during the recruitment process.
