ABOUT THE TEAM:

The Architecture Team main mandate in Sustainalytics is to ensure up to date, industry standard architecture guide lines for our digital products managed by our Software Development colleagues. 

The team is responsible for creating Proof of Concepts for potential new technologies that could bring value to the Sustainalytics technical stack. Alongside this main mandate, the team also creates and manages its own business driven digital products that range from serverless APIs, complex database systems and web applications that serve our internal and external users.

POSITION PURPOSE:

As a Database Engineer you will help us design and architect complex data structures based on requirements received from the Product Management Teams and ensure data accuracy and availability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Define the database architecture for upcoming features within our digital platforms;
• Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading - use specialized tools such as Pentaho Spoon to create and manage complex ETL processes;
• Specialized Data Handling - working with both SQL and noSQL databases such as Apache HBase, MongoDB and PostgreSQL;
• Database Backup and Recovery - ensure our backup and recovery policies and procedures are up to date on the Azure and AWS Clouds;
• Database Security - implement and assure database security best practices when accessing data hosted by our cloud providers;
• Database Performance Monitoring, Database Tuning and Capacity Planning - monitor the health status of our databases and plan for upgrades according to the requirements received by the Product Managers or the Chief Software Architect;
• Troubleshooting - help the Sustainalytics team members from different departments troubleshoot issues relating to data;
• Data integration - ensure that systems created by other teams integrate properly and respect the requirements defined by the architecture team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Solid knowledge of SQL database environments (MSSQL, mySQL and PostreSQL);
• Exposure to noSQL database environments (MongoDB, HBase, Redis);
• Familiar with up to date industry standards for Database Design, Data Maintenance and Security;
• Meticulous and attentive to detail;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint;
• Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills;
• Alignment with Sustainalytics’ mission vision and values;
