Senior MySQL Database Administrator

We are looking for an experienced MySQL database administrator who will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability and security of clusters of MySQL instances. You will also be responsible for orchestrating upgrades, backups, and provisioning of database instances. You will also work in tandem with the other teams, preparing documentation and specifications as required.

Responsibilities:

• Provision MySQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations, in cloud environments or on-premise
• Ensure the integrity, performance, security and availability of databases
• Define and handle common data processes and database procedures, such as configuration, security policies, upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, disaster recovery protocol etc.
• Monitor and profile server’s resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary
• Prepare documentations and specifications
• Provide proactive and reactive data management technical support and problem resolution
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
• Provide insight on data analysis models and procedures

Skills and Qualifications:

• Advanced knowledge of database structure and theory
• Strong proficiency in MySQL database management (data backup, disaster recovery, security, integrity)
• Strong proficiency in database parameters and underlying OS configuration
• Decent experience with recent versions of MySQL
• Understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
• Experience with replication configuration and performance tuning in MySQL
• Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
• Knowledge of MySQL features, such as its event scheduler
• Familiarity with query profiling and reporting tools
• Experience with PowerShell and Unix shell scripting
• Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
• Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as Oracle DB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc. 
• Knowledge of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance
