Solution Architect with Java

1&1 Mail & Media operates & GMX, two of Germany's largest Internet portals, as well as an Internet portal catering to an international audience – . Through these brands, we are able to reach over 40 million users monthly, hosting 55% of Germany’s email accounts.

In addition to a large editorial news section and Germany's by far most popular free e-mail service, 1&1 Mail & Media offers paid subscriptions to a variety of internet-based services, such as paid e-mail accounts, virus protection software or web hosting services. In Romania, we are developing applications related to calendaring (we are also a member of the CalConnect international consortium), online office editor (we active contributors to open source Libre Office community as well), messaging, lottery and web hosting products.

To grow our Portal Architecture Group, we are looking for an experienced java backend architect to join us in shaping the future of our products. The role is embedded into our international solution architects team and you will be working closely together with our other architects in Bucharest, Munich and Karlsruhe to build world-class technical solutions.

• Create the system and solution architecture for our paid and free products that are a part of our high-volume web portals
• Lead the application architects of multiple software development teams, which implement the solution architecture
• Define the guard rails, technology stack and standards which guide the software development teams in defining and delivering the application architecture for their components
• Coach agile teams and develop senior software engineers into application architects
• Develop the architectural vision for the products and be one of the drivers for putting it into practice
• Foster knowledge and best practice transfer between our internationally distributed development sites
• Serve as the domain expert of the solution/system
• Supporting/reviewing system test scenarios & test cases
• Conducting design & code reviews and ensuring the development test practice is in place, unit/integration testing, as well as non-functional testing (performance, load, security)
• Offer guidance and technical leadership on software architecture, design and coding to software development teams developing composite software and services using Java and correlated platforms
• Adjusts architecture by tracking emerging technologies; assessing their applicability to business objectives and operational requirements

We Appreciate:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in hands on Java development of which at least 2 should be as an architect or lead developer role
• Expert in various supporting frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate
• Experience in building scalable, high performing and robust applications (with a focus on Java)
• Strong skills in understanding complex technical architecture, system interfaces and application integration concepts
• You can work on an abstract level and focus on the big picture – and break down this big picture into deliverables for software-development teams
• This role requires travel to Germany – Karlsruhe and/or Munich or/and Bucharest once every two months (for 2-3 days)
• Demonstrate an aptitude for learning and applying new and/or updated programming languages, techniques, and/or software development disciplines
• You form strong, trustful relationships with your Customers, Peers and Developers
• You are a good communicator and a great listener, both in English, which you master at C1 level. German language skills are a plus but not required for this position
