We are seeking motivated scientists to join QIAGEN Romania, Somatic Curation Team.
This position will be based in Romania with the primary responsibility to curate somatic variant data.
The Somatic Curation Scientist will work within the scientific curation team to support research that grows and maintains the QCI-One knowledgebase, which supports development of diagnostic and treatment strategies by our clients and their medical teams.
Responsibilities: The Somatic Curation Scientist will be responsible for:
• Researching and interpreting scientific literature related to cancer biomarkers, in particular:
o Histopathological marker findings related to specific cancer types o Histopathological marker findings related to targeted therapies o Clinical trial findings o Specific mutations or mutation types in a given gene
• Using expert judgment to determine the clinical relevance of literature findings, in particular:
o Applying judgment to decide whether a given paper or abstract is worth curating given the level of evidence it provides, and the existing curation information already captured in our knowledgebase
• Writing brief synopses of literature and data surrounding biomarkers and cancer drugs
• Reviewing and interpreting clinical trial enrollment
• Working as part of a team that includes genomics scientists, bioinformaticians, and physicians
• Contributing ideas to the development of tools supporting genetic data analysis:
o Providing feedback for process improvements
o Adopting new processes for genetic analysis as they routinely arise Position Requirements:
• MD or PhD (2+ years pf experience) in human molecular genetics and/or an oncology related field o Prior experience with pharma/ targeted therapies is an asset
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills, with strong attention to detail o English language publication record preferred
• Experience reviewing scientific literature via PubMed and scientific abstracts
• Proven ability to comprehend, process and decisively evaluate complex genetic findings o Prior experience with interpreting genetic alterations for diagnostic or clinical purposes is an asset
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Familiarity with professional guidelines related to cancer care and somatic variant curation o NCCN
o WHO guidelines for heme/ lymphoid disease
o AMP guidelines for somatic mutation curation
• Ability to work in a team environment adhering to strict deadlines
